Symptom Remedy
No sound is out p ut when an
in p ut sou r ce is selected.
No sound out p ut f r om the f r ont
s p eake r s.
• Check the volume, mute setting ( pr ess MUTE ) and s p eake r setting ( pr ess SPEAKERS ).
• Make su r e the co rr ect in p ut sou r ce is selected.
• Check that the MCACC setu p mic r o p hone is disconnected.
• Make su r e the co rr ect in p ut signal is selected ( pr ess SIGNAL SEL ). Note that when PCM is
selected, you won’t be able to hea r any othe r signal fo r mat.
• Check that the sou r ce com p onent is connected pr o p e r ly (see
Connecting your equipment
on
p age 14).
• Check that the s p eake r s a r e connected pr o p e r ly (see
Connecting the speakers
on p age 25).
No sound f r om the su rr ound o r
cente r s p eake r s.
• Check that the Ste r eo listening mode o r the F r ont Stage Su rr ound Advance mode isn’t selected;
select one of the su rr ound listening modes (see

• Check that the su rr ound/cente r s p eake r s a r e not set to
NO

• Check the channel level settings (see

• Check that the su rr ound back s p eake r s a r e set to
LARGE

SMALL

• Make su r e su rr ound back pr ocessing is set to SBch ON (see

• If the sou r ce is Dolby Su rr ound EX o r DTS ES with no flag to indicate 6.1 com p atibility, then with
su rr ound back pr ocessing set to
SBch AUTO
, the r e will be no sound f r om the su rr ound back
s p eake r s. In this case, set to
SBch ON
(see
Using surround back channel processing
on p age 39).
• If the sou r ce does not have 6.1 p layback channels, make su r e that su rr ound back pr ocessing is set
to SBch ON and a su rr ound mode is selected (see
Listening in surround sound
on p age 35).
• Check the s p eake r connections (see
Connecting the speakers
on p age 25). If only one su rr ound
back s p eake r is connected, make su r e it’s connected to the left channel s p eake r te r minal.
No sound f r om subwoofe r . • Check that the subwoofe r is connected pr o p e r ly, switched on and the volume tu r ned u p .
• If you r subwoofe r has a slee p function, make su r e it is switched off.
• Make su r e that the Subwoofe r setting is YES o r PLUS (see
Speaker Setting
on p age 56).
• The c r ossove r f r equency may be set too low; t r y setting it highe r to match the cha r acte r istics of
you r othe r s p eake r s (see Speaker Setting on p age 56).
• If the r e is ve r y little low f r equency info r mation in the sou r ce mate r ial, change you r s p eake r settings
to F r ont:

• Check that the LFE channel is not set to OFF , o r a ve r y quiet setting (see

No sound f r om one s p eake r . • Check the s p eake r connection (see
Connecting the speakers
on p age 25).
• Check the s p eake r level settings (see
Channel Level
on p age 57).
• Check that the s p eake r hasn’t been set to NO (see Speaker Setting on p age 56).
• The channel may not be r eco r ded in the sou r ce. By using one of the advanced effect listening
mode, you may be able to c r eate the missing channel (see Listening in surround sound on p age 35).
Sound is pr oduced f r om
analog com p onents, but not
f r om digital ones (DVD, LD,
CD-ROM etc.).
• Check that the in p ut signal ty p e is set to DIGITAL (see Choosing the input signal on p age 38).
• Make su r e that the digital in p ut is assigned co rr ectly fo r the in p ut jack the com p onent is connected
to (see The Input Setup menu on p age 89).
• Check the digital out p ut settings on the sou r ce com p onent.
• If the sou r ce com p onent has a digital volume cont r ol, make su r e this is not tu r ned down.
• Make su r e that the multichannel analog in p uts a r e not selected. Select any othe r in p ut sou r ce.
No sound is out p ut o r a noise is
out p ut when Dolby Digital/DTS
softwa r e is p layed back.
• Check that you r DVD p laye r is com p atible with Dolby Digital/DTS discs.
• Check the digital out p ut settings of you r DVD p laye r . Make su r e that the DTS signal out p ut is set
to On.
• If the sou r ce com p onent has a digital volume cont r ol, make su r e this is not tu r ned down.
