• Make su r e that all the ba r e s p eake r wi r e is twisted
togethe r and inse r ted fully into the s p eake r te r minal.
If any of the ba r e s p eake r wi r e touches the back p anel
it may cause the p owe r to cut off as a safety measu r e.
Bare wire connections
Make su r e that the s p eake r cable you’ r e going to use is
pr o p e r ly pr e p a r ed with about 10 mm of insulato r st r i pp ed
f r om each wi r e, and the ex p osed wi r e st r ands twisted
togethe r (
fig. A
).
To connect a te r minal, unsc r ew the te r minal a few tu r ns
until the r e is enough s p ace to inse r t the ex p osed wi r e (
fig.
B ). Once the wi r e is in p osition, tighten the te r minal until
the wi r e is fi r mly clam p ed (
fig. C
).

• Please r efe r to the manual that came with you r
s p eake r s fo r details on how to connect the othe r end
of the s p eake r cables to you r s p eake r s.
• Other connections on p age 60 pr ovides g r eate r detail
on alte r nate s p eake r setu p s, such as using s p eake r
system B ( p age 60), bi-am p ing ( p age 61) and bi-
wi r ing ( p age 62).
• If you a r e using a THX ce r tified subwoofe r use the
THX INPUT
jack on the subwoofe r (if you r subwoofe r
has one) o r switch the filte r p osition to
THX
on you r
subwoofe r .
Placing the speakers
Whe r e you p ut you r s p eake r s in the r oom has a big effect
on the quality of the sound. The following guidelines
should hel
p you to get the best sound f r om you r system.
• The subwoofe r can be p laced on the floo r . Ideally, the
othe r s p eake r s should be at about ea r -level when
you’ r e listening to them. Putting the s p eake r s on the
floo r (exce p t the subwoofe r ), o r mounting them ve r y
high on a wall is not r ecommended.
• Fo r the best ste r eo effect, p lace the f r ont s p eake r s
2 m to 3 m a p a r t, at equal distance f r om the TV.
• When p lacing s p eake r s nea r the TV, we r ecommend
using magnetically shielded s p eake r s to pr event
p ossible inte r fe r ence, such as discolo r ation of the
p ictu r e when the TV is switched on. If you do not have
magnetically shielded s p eake r s and notice
discolo r ation of the TV p ictu r e, move the s p eake r s
fa r the r away f r om the TV.
• If you’ r e using a cente r s p eake r , p lace the f r ont
s p eake r s at a wide r angle. If not, p lace them at a
na rr owe r angle.
• Place the cente r s p eake r above o r below the TV so
that the sound of the cente r channel is localized at
the TV sc r een. Also, make su r e the cente r s p eake r
does not c r oss the line fo r med by the leading edge of
the f r ont left and r ight s p eake r s.
• It is best to angle the s p eake r s towa r ds the listening
p osition. The angle de p ends on the size of the r oom.
Use less of an angle fo r bigge r r ooms.
• Su rr ound and su rr ound back s p eake r s should be
p ositioned 60 cm to 90 cm highe r than you r ea r s and
titled slight downwa r d. Make su r e the s p eake r s don’t
face each othe r . Fo r DVD-Audio, the s p eake r s should
be mo r e di r ectly behind the listene r than fo r home
theate r p layback.
• T r y not to p lace the su rr ound s p eake r s fa r the r away
f r om the listening p osition than the f r ont and cente r
s p eake r s. Doing so can weaken the su rr ound sound
effect.
• To achieve the best p ossible su rr ound sound, install
you r s p eake r s as shown below. Be su r e all s p eake r s
a r e installed secu r ely to pr event accidents and
im pr ove sound quality.

• Make su r e that all s p eake r s a r e secu r ely installed.
This not only im pr oves sound quality, but also
r educes the r isk of damage o r inju r y r esulting f r om
s p eake r s being knocked ove r o r falling in the event of
exte r nal shocks such as ea r thquakes.
