Getting Started
Initializing a disc
If you’re recording on a DVD-R
disc, the recording mode will
always be Video mode.
If you are using a DVD-RW disc, by
default it will be VR mode. You can
change this to Video mode from
the Disc Setup menu.
If you want to change the disc
format, everything recorded on
the disc will be erased.

Press SETUP and select ‘Disc
Setup’ to display the Disc Setup
menu.
2Select ‘Video Mode’ or ‘VR
Mode’ from the sub-menu.

Select ‘Start’.
It takes about 40 seconds to initialize
the disc.
Setting up for VR
mode recording
When recording a disc in VR
mode, you can select either
SP
(standard) or
MN
(manual)
recording. If you choose
MN
, you
can set the picture quality to one
of 32 different settings. See
page
38
for more information on VR
mode recording.

Load a disc initialized for VR
mode recording.
2Press REC MODE repeatedly to
select either the SP (standard)
or MN (manual) record setting.
• The screen also shows the total
disc recording time, the data
transfer rate and the remaining
recording time on disc based on
the current settings.
• Select
PREVIEW
to see how the
recorded picture will look.
• Press
ENTER
to select the setting
displayed, or just wait until the
screen disappears after a few
seconds.
