2.2.2.2 Electro-hydraulically operated boom barriers
– drive and control unit
The electro-hydraulic boom barriers are driven by means of a hydraulic power unit that is
connected to the hydraulic cylinder using hydraulic hoses. The hydraulic cylinder is hinged
on a shaft in the barrier stand and on the swivel lever shaft and drives the up and down
movement of the barrier boom. The barrier stand is a pre-assembled unit. It mounts the
barrier boom and houses the hydraulic cylinder.
2.2.2.2.1 Hydraulic cylinder
The hydraulic cylinder features two-sided dampening so as to ensure that the lifting/lowering
speed decreases smoothly before the boom reaches either end position. The dampening
action can be set by means of adjusting screws and is achieved by reducing the volume of oil
flow.
Turning the screws to the right increases the degree of dampening, while turning the screws
to the left decreases it.
This design principle ensures not only short opening and closing times but also smooth start-
up and slow-down of the boom movement.
2.2.2.2.2 Hydraulic power unit
The hydraulic power unit is mounted in the barrier stand and consists of the following
components: oil reservoir with integrated hydraulic pump, oil filler neck, oil-drain plug, oil
level indicator, pressure control valve, multi-
way valve “Open” and “Close”, the load-lowering
valves and one three-way valve for
“normal operation”, “manual lifting” and “manual
lowering”.
2.2.2.2.3 Oil level / oil reservoir / oil change
The level of oil in the reservoir can be read from the oil level indicator.
It should always be between the markings.
Before putting the boom barrier into operation, the oil level should be at maximum.
Attention
Use only hydraulic oil that matches the type used in the initial filling.
The oil reservoir has already been filled at the factory.
After unscrewing the oil filler, hydraulic oil can be poured into the oil reservoir.
For a change of the oil, there is an oil-drain plug on the oil reservoir. If this unscrewed, the oil
can be drained into a suitable collecting vessel.
