AC WELDING FUNCTION TIG AC - BALANCE
The AC balance has an influence on the quality of the weld, the weld seam and the width of the face.
It also affects TIG electrode wear. If you start the adventure with aluminium welding with the TIG
AC/DC welding machine, you should be familiar with the AC balance function.
Aluminium welding and alternating current balance, what is this really about? To explain the concept
of the alternating current balance, one of the most important parameters when welding aluminium
with a TIG welder, we need to clarify a few theoretical issues concerning aluminium welding. When
welding with alternating current, the cyclogram becomes more complicated and the alternating
current parameters are added. The ratio of the pulse length of positive to negative polarity.
ATTENTION! The
material should be cleaned before welding. For
welding aluminium with a tungsten electrode, an AC source is required. It is
AC welding that allows for effective removal of oxides from the aluminium
surface and keeping the welding pond clean.
AC Balance function - it is a possibility to adjust the ratio of straight polarization duration to reverse
polarization duration, in a single period T, of the AC diagram. When the straight polarity duration is
extended, the reverse polarity duration is proportionally shortened, and vice versa, when the straight
polarity duration is shortened, the reverse polarity duration is proportionally extended.
If simple polarization prevails, then during welding more thermal energy will be
introduced
into the
welded material (wide weld, small re-melting), the welding process will be more efficient, the
tungsten electrode will wear out less, but will form and remain more of an unreducible oxide layer by
a short pulse of reverse polarization, significantly deteriorates the quality of the weld.
The mode for changing the value of any function in the current welding method, see section 8.1.
5.5.1 TIG AC WELDING FUNCTION - BALANCING FREQUENCY
The AC frequency is a physical quantity that can be increased or decreased within acceptable limits.
The number of single alternating current T cycles per second [Hz]. The frequency of alternating
current affects the properties of the weld, this regulation enables the welder to increase control of the
arc by stabilising the width of the arc to allow welding in hard-to-reach places as well as for welding
thin materials.
The AC frequency of the TIG welding machine is one of the key parameters for qualitative welding
of e.g. aluminium. The optimum AC frequency is between 80 Hz and 120 Hz. Too low an alternating
current frequency negatively affects the quality of the weld.
