After you install desktop sync software, 
you can synchronize in either of the 
following ways:

•

By connecting your smartphone to your 
computer using the sync cable (see 
Synchronizing using the sync cable)

•

By connecting your smartphone to your 
computer using Bluetooth

®

 wireless 

technology (see Synchronizing over a 
Bluetooth

®

 connection)

If you have a Windows XP computer:

 

The desktop sync software is called 
ActiveSync

®

 desktop software. 

If you have a Windows Vista computer:

 

The desktop sync software is called 
Windows Mobile Device Center. 

The sync application on your smartphone is 
called ActiveSync regardless of your 
computer operating system. 

Synchronizing wirelessly with the server

You can set up your smartphone to 
synchronize email and other information 
wirelessly with Microsoft Exchange Server 
2003, or with Exchange Server 2007, using 
Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync (see 
Setting up wireless synchronization). If you 

choose this method, synchronization takes 
place automatically after setup. You do not 
need to install the software from the 
Windows Mobile Getting Started CD.

NOTE

We recommend that you install the 

desktop sync software from the CD even if 
you synchronize wirelessly with the server. 
You need the desktop sync software to 
synchronize pictures, videos, music files, 
and other info directly with your computer.
