Specifying Automatic Recognition of the Size of
the Original
(Original Recognition)
The copier can automatically sense the size of the original through the Original
Recognition function. When Auto Paper Selection (see p. 1-46) is specified, you
need to turn the Original Recognition function on. This function also automatically
erases black bands or strips that may result from the misaligned placement of
originals.
IMPORTANT
.
•
The Original Recognition function may not work with the following types of originals. In
these cases, turn the Original Recognition function off and manually select the paper
size.
- Non-standard size originals
- Transparencies or other highly transparent originals
- Originals with extremely dark backgrounds
- Originals smaller than STMT in size
- Originals that are extraordinarily thin
- Black 3-dimensional objects
- Glossy originals
•
When copying an original that is held together by staples etc., separate the individual
pages of the original and copy them one at a time. If the original is placed as shown in
the illustration below, the copier may not be able to recognize the size of the original
correctly.
•
If you are making copies with the original placed on the platen glass when the feeder
(option) is attached, copy with the feeder lifted up, or copy by selecting the paper size
manually. If the feeder is lowered, the copier will not be able to correctly determine the
size of the original even if the Original Recognition function is turned on.
NOTE
.
•
The Original Recognition function is turned on by default.
•
Turning the Original Recognition function off also automatically turns the Center Shift
function off.
