When applying External and Cellular network settings involving DHCP, the old IP
address will not be released, and this may be reflected by the status IP address not
matching the configured value. This ensures that the device will always be reachable.
A reboot of the device will release the old address.
7.3.2. Gateway Monitoring
Gateway Monitoring is a feature that allows the Battery Control Panel to automatically failover from
the External to the Cellular network, and back again in the event connectivity to the Internet is lost
over a particular network. These settings control how the device monitors network connectivity on the
External and Cellular interfaces.
▪
IP Address
: The IP address which receives a periodic ICMP echo request (ping) from the Battery
Control Panel
▪
Max Failed Pings
: The number of pings in a row which must be unanswered in order to trigger a
failover event
▪
Ping Timeout
: The number of seconds to wait for a reply to an unanswered ping before considering
it failed
The maximum time for failover in seconds is calculated as
Max Failed Pings
×
Ping Timeout
. To increase
responsiveness in a failure scenario, the values can be reduced. Since it is possible for ICMP packets
to be lost occasionally, reducing the
Max Failed Pings
value to too low of a number can cause false
positives.
The address set for pings must be on the Internet and reachable by the Battery
Control Panel, and must reliably respond to ICMP messages for this feature to work
correctly. A failure to meet any of these criteria will result in the Cellular network
being used all the time.
