Overriding Auto Steering Mode according to ABS
If the system is configured for ABS override, the handwheel at the Main steering
position (the main helm) may temporarily override the Auto steering mode.
The ABS override feature conforms to the requirements set out in the „ABS Rules
for Building and Classing Steel Vessels“, 4-3-4/13, 2003.
To activate ABS override...
While in the Auto steering mode, use the handwheel at the Main steering
position to manually order a rudder angle above the ABS override
threshold

The handwheel is put into control of the rudder. „Override“ is shown in
inverse video on the NAVIPILOT 4000 display and the audible alarm is
sounds. Other bus devices display „Overr. / Main“.
The handwheel now remains in control until the ABS override mode is
cancelled.
The audible alarm may be muted by pressing the „ACCEPT“ key at the
NAVIPILOT 4000 to acknowledge the alarm.
a.The appliccable threshold is set during system installation. The default value for
the threshold is 5 degrees, in accordance with the requirements of the ABS rules.
To cancel the ABS override mode...
Select a manual steering mode (FU or NFU).
ABS override mode is cancelled and the selected steering mode
becomes active. If the alarm has not been acknowledged yet, press the
„ACCEPT“ key at the NAVIPILOT 4000 now.
The Auto steering mode may now be selected again to resume auto-
matic steering.
Note
When the system is configured for ABS override, the helm wheel must be put to
the midship’s detent before switching to the Auto steering mode. Otherwise, an
ABS override condition will occur when the Auto steering mode is activated.
The ABS override feature allows to override the Auto steering mode only if the
Main steering position is active. ABS override cannot be used to override the Auto
steering mode at a Remote steering position.
