Configuring Analogue Steering Gear Control
When analogue steering gear control is used, each SCU is equipped with one or
two isolated proportional output daughter PCBs. Each PCB contains two separate
isolated analogue ouput sections. The output signal is a DC voltage with a maxi-
mum swing of ±10 V. The analogue outputs offer two modes of operation, PRO
(proportional to rudder order) and PRE (proportional to rudder error).
5.2.2.1
Output Mode PRO (Proportional to Rudder Order)
When the analogue output is configured for the PRO mode, the output voltage is
linearly proportional to the ordered rudder angle. The output voltage scale factor is
adjustable in the SCU setup (80 - 350 mV/°). When the PRO mode is used, the
SCU requires no rudder feedback signal to generate the output voltage. The rud-
der control feedback loop is established outside the SCU, via the analogue steer-
ing gear control equipment (third-party supply).

put mode PRO
5.2.2.2
Output Mode PRE (Proportional to Rudder Error)
When the analogue output is configured for the PRE mode, the output voltage is
linearly proportional to the rudder error (the difference between the actual and or-
dered rudder angles). The output voltage scale factor is adjustable in the SCU
setup (500 - 2000 mV/°). When the PRE mode is used, the SCU requires a rudder
feedback signal to generate the output voltage. The rudder control feedback loop
is established through the SCU.

put mode PRE
Note
The PRO/PRE mode selection is effective for all installed analogue daughter
PCBs as well as the SCU’s non-isolated analogue outputs.
