Control Transfer between Steering Positions
The NAVIGUIDE 4000 system allows transfer of rudder control between separate
named locations. These are called the steering positions. The positions available
and the devices installed at these positions are established through the system
configuration, so that only valid control transfer operations can be carried out.
2.1.3.1
Steering Positions
NAVIGUIDE 4000 discriminates between two categories of steering positions:
Main and Remote. While only one Main position can exist within the system, up to
15 Remote positions may be present.
Main Steering Position:
Main is the position at which bus steering is engaged
and disengaged. Directly after bus steering is engaged, Main will be the
active steering position.
To transfer control from Main to Remote positions, Main must send and
offer to the Remote positions. Remote positions cannot take away con-
trol from Main through immediate takeover.
The Main position can immediately take over control from Remote posi-
tions at all times. Main does not need an offer from the Remote positions
to take over control. However, when the system is configured for the Call-
Up transfer method, Main will usually take over control from a Remote
position after the active Remote position has sent an offer.
Remote Steering Positions:
Remote steering positions may take over control
from the Main steering position in response to an offer sent by Main.
Once control has been transferred from Main to a Remote steering posi-
tion, control may be freely transferred between Remote positions or back
to main, according to the configured takeover method.
Note
On small vessels, bus units at different physical locations may be logically as-
signed to a single steering position, most likely the Main position.
On large vessels, one physical location, e.g. the main bridge, may be logically di-
vided into separate steering positions.
