Steering Control Operations
The NAVIGUIDE 4000 components provide facilities needed to control a vessel’s
rudder(s) through one or more SCUs. Depending on the installed components and
their configuration, the system will allow a number of the following user operations:
– Engaging and disengaging bus steering
– Transferring bus steering control between the available steering positions
– Selecting between the available bus steering modes
– Commanding the rudder angle manually (mode FU) using a helm wheel,
FU miniwheel, or wheel control unit
– Commanding the rudder angle using the NAVIPILOT 4000 heading control
system (modes Auto, Nav or Track)
– Commanding the rudder angle through an analogue control signal from an
external system (mode External)
– Selecting between synchronous and independent rudder control in dual
rudder steering systems
– Executing NFU override (overriding bus steering) using an NFU tiller („jog“
override) or an NFU tiller and override unit („forced“ override)
– Executing FU override (overriding the heading control system) using a FU
miniwheel or handwheel with wheel control unit
– Executing FU override according to „ABS 2000“ requirements (overriding
the heading control system) using a handwheel with wheel control unit in-
stalled at the main steering position
