Steering Control Transfer (Takeover Modes)
The NAVIGUIDE 4000 system provides two different methods for transferring con-
trol between the steering positions: Coordinated transfer, referred to as „Call-Up“,
and immediate takeover, referred to simply as „Takeover“.
Call-Up:
When the Call-Up method is configured, control transfer from one posi-
tion to another requires a coordinated transfer. The operator at the cur-
rently active position (the calling position) offers control to other posi-
tions. An operator at a position receiving the offer (the called position)
must then accept the offer to complete control transfer. The Call-Up
method will be found on most vessels.

Systems containing Steering Position Selectors (SPS) always use the
Call-Up method. The calling position offers control to one specific called
position using the SPS. In systems without SPSs, the calling position of-
fers control to all other positions.
In systems which provide a dedicated „Remote“ steering mode (through
a mechanical mode switch or an SMS at Main), control is offered from
Main to the Remote positions by selecting the „Remote“ steering mode.
When a Remote position is active in these systems, control is offered to
other positions by pressing the „Takeover“ key at the Remote position.
Offers are then sent to the other Remote positions. At a called position,
control is taken over by pressing the „Takeover“ key. Control is taken
back to Main by selecting a non-remote steering mode at Main.
In systems which do not provide a dedicated „Remote“ steering mode,
control is offered from Main to the Remote positions by pressing the
„Takeover“ key at the Main SMS.

Note
With the Call-Up transfer method, the previously active steering mode remains in
force and control remains at the calling position until the called position accepts
the control offer.
