video WRAM
Your system comes standard with a 2- or 4-MB video WRAM board that
provides resolutions (dependent on the monitor) of up to 1600 by 1200 with 256
colors, 1280 by 1024 with 256 colors, 1024 by 768 with 65K colors, 800 by 600
with 65K colors, or 640 by 480 with 16.7 million colors.
With the upgrade to 4 MB of WRAM, the system supports resolutions up to 1600
by 1200 with 65K colors and 1280 by 1024, 1024 by 768, or 640 by 480 with
16.7 million colors.
The 8-MB upgrade supports resolutions up to 1600 by 1200 with 16.7 million
colors.

Memory expansion
There are four single in-line memory module (SIMM) sockets located on the
system board for the installation of SIMM upgrade kits. The system supports up
to 256 MB of 32- or 36-bit, 60 ns high-speed memory (see “SIMM Upgrade”).

Drives
System accommodates a total of six data storage devices. With the standard
diskette drive and hard disk installed in the 3 1/2-inch drive slot, there is still one
more 3 1/2-inch slot available for a second hard disk drive.
The system also provides three accessible, 5 1/4-inch, 1.6-inch high device slots
for optional storage devices. In multimedia configurations, a CD-ROM reader is
installed in the top slot. See “Data Storage Devices” for information on installing
optional devices.

Processor upgrade
A 387-pin, zero insertion force (ZIF) socket on the system board supports the
primary processor or a Pro OverDrive
™
processor for upgrades.
NOTE:
Incorrect installation of the processor
chip can damage the system board, the chip, or
both. See “Processor Upgrade” for detailed
information.

External options
Peripherals (such as state-of-the-art parallel printers and serial devices) are
compatible with the system. See “Adding External Options” for information about
attaching peripherals to the system unit ports.
