Option Installation
This section provides instructions for installing the following options:
n
expansion boards
n
SIMM upgrade
n
processor upgrade
n
video upgrade
n
data storage devices
These options require that the system unit cover be removed. Procedures for removing the
cover are included in this section.
In addition, this section provides procedures for installing external options to the connector
ports on on the rear of the system unit.
GENERAL RULES FOR INSTALLING OPTIONS
Follow these general rules when installing system options.
n
Turn off system power and unplug the power cable.
n
Turn off and disconnect all peripherals.
n
When handling boards or chips, touch the system unit frame to discharge static.
n
Do not disassemble parts other than those specified in the procedure.
n
All screws are Phillips-head, unless otherwise specified.
n
Label any removed connectors. Note where the connector goes and in what
position it was installed.
Precautions
Take care when you work inside the system and when you handle computer components.
Avoid electric shock or personal injury by observing the following warning.
NOTE:
Before removing the system unit cover,
turn off the power and unplug the system power
cable. Power is removed only when the power
cable is unplugged.
