SCSI
Small Computer Systems Interface. A computer bus inter-
face standard that defines standard electrical and physical
connections for devices. SCSI provides a standard interface
that allow different devices (disk drives, CD-ROM drives,
tape drives) to interface with the CPU.
SCSI ID
An identifier assigned to SCSI devices that allows them to
communicate with the CPU when the device(s) are con-
nected to a SCSI host adapter through the SCSI bus. Each
adapter has eight available SCSI IDs.
serial interface
An interface that communicates information one bit at
a time.
serial printer
A printer with a serial interface.
shadowing
To copy the system and video BIOS from chip to RAM for
enhanced system performance.
software
Programs that run on a computer, such as operating
systems, word processors, and spreadsheets.
system board
The main printed circuit board inside the system unit into
which other boards and major chip components, such as the
system microprocessor, are connected.
