How to use the MIDI feature
You can put the value of a MIDI note itself on a logical channel. To use this feature you obviously need to
attach a device that can send MIDI notes to the Xciter (see MIDI connection). Example: a midi keyboard.
1.
Make the dimmer chase from Effect generator examples on page 86 to start with, but stay in the effects
dialog instead of pressing [ESC].
2.
There should be a square wave running on DIM in generator 11.
3.
Make sure DIM is still selected (they should have the < symbol next to them).
4.
Press the left softkey next to DIM to bring up the shape list and select one of the MIDI channels from the list.
Select midi-all if you want the logical channel to react to note values coming from any midi channel.
Example: Select Midi-all.
When you select the new shape, the original dimmer chase from the example will stop running.
5.
Press the keys on your midi keyboard from left to right and see what happens. The dimmer should open up
gradually. Depending on the size of your keyboard, the midi note may or may not start from 0. If not, you
cannot close the dimmer all the way.

How to use the Master feature
In normal circumstances, you use the master intensity bump button to give a flash when the master fader is
set low. The effect generator offers an extra feature where you can add a certain value on top of the base
value when you press the master bump button. Example: You have a scene where the shutter is open and
the dimmer at 50%. When you press the master bump button you want the dimmers at full and the lights to
strobe.
1.
Select at least 2 fixtures of the same type.
2.
Open the dimmer (DIM) and shutter (SHUT or STROB).
3.
Set the dimmer (DIM) to 50% but leave the shutter (SHUT or STROB) open.
4.
Access the effects dialog from the advanced menu of the scene editor.
5.
Select the DIM and SHUT (or STROB) channel and assign generator number 11 to it.
6.
Press the softkey to the left of either channel to access the shape list.
7.
Select Mast+ from the list.
8.
Deselect all channels by pressing [CLEAR]. Select the DIM channel only and put its swing on 255.
9.
Deselect all channels by pressing [CLEAR]. Select the SHUT (or STROBE) channel only and put its swing
on to the value it would normally take to strobe.
10.
Press the master bump button and see what happens.

How to use the BPM feature
You have seen the BPM generators and the modulating generators. This feature combines both. When you
select one of the BPM shapes on a channel, the generator assigned to that channel will be modulated with
a BPM generator (generator 251-255)
1.
Make the circle from Effect generator examples on page 85 to start with, but stay in the effects dialog
instead of pressing [ESC].
2.
There should be a sine wave running on PAN and TILT in generator 10.
3.
Make sure PAN and TILT are still selected (they should have the < symbol next to them).
4.
Press the left softkey next to PAN or TILT to bring up the shape list and select Bpm/2 from the list. The
fixtures will start circling inwards and outwards.
5.
Tap the [C/F] button at different rates and see what happens.
You have done something similar to the example of the modulating generators but this time you did not
have to use some channel to make the modulating generator work. You only needed to select these
special shapes. The main difference is the speed setting. In the modulating generators you could set a
