3-5-1
3-5-1 Self diagnostic function
( 1 ) Automatic initialization of backup data
This function checks to see if there is a problem in the backup memory each time the
main switch is turned ON.
If an abnormality is detected, the backup data is initialized, and the initial data is input,
hence it is necessary to re-enter the data for each function.
( 2 ) Self diagnostic display
This machine has a self diagnostic function. When it detects a problem with itself, it dis-
ables copying, and letter “C” and the number or 3-digit (between 030 and 930) that indi-
cates the contents of self diagnostic are alternately displayed on the copy number/zoom
ratio inidicator section (some codes are not displayed).
Problems detected by the self diagnostic function are ranked A, B, C and D according to
their contents. The motion of the machine after detection of the problem is as follows.
Rank A: The machine stops the first time the problem is detected, and also the ser-
vice call display appears.
Rank B: The service call display appears, then the machine enters partial operation
control.
Rank C: The machine self-recovers when the CPU is reset, for example.
If the abnormality is detected again after the machine self-recovers, rank A
or rank B motion will occur.
Rank D: Only the service call count takes place. The machine does not stop.
To clear the service call, the safety switch is turned OFF then ON again (when the front
cover is opened then closed again) or when the main switch is turned OFF then ON
again, after the cause of the breakdown has been removed. However, “C030 (CPU
communication problem) and “C640” (fixing thermistor short circuit/abnormally high fix-
ing temperature) can only be cleared by turning the main switch OFF then ON again.
( 3 ) Partial operation control
If a problem is detected several times in succession when a certain part or function is
used, only the part or function concerned is rendered unusable. Other functions that do
not contain a problem can continue to be used.
