9.5 Refitting the spreading discs
1. Assemble the left spreading disc onto the left-hand side of the unit and the right spreading disc
onto the right-hand side of the unit (when viewed in direction of travel).
IMPORTANT
Positioning the spreading discs onto the disc hubs
•
When positioning the spreading discs onto the disc hubs, do not invert the right-
hand disc (R) with the left-hand disc (L)!
•
The right-hand disc (R) and the left-hand disc (L) must be correctly placed onto
their corresponding right- and left-hand drive hubs, when viewed in the direction
of travel.
•
When placing the spreading discs onto their hubs, make sure they are correctly
seated (remove any dirt before assembly).
•
Spreading discs and vanes are indicated with (R) or (L).
•
Make sure the synthetic castellated disc hub nuts are correctly fitted (not cross
threaded).
•
Tighten the synthetic castellated disc hub nuts, first by hand and then lightly fi-
nish tightening using the assembly lever.
•
Check that the spreading disc is correctly seated.
IMPORTANT
Defective synthetic castellated disc hub nuts
If the synthetic castellated disc hub nuts are defective, it is possible that the disc will
not be adequately tightened in place. This will cause disc flutter.
•
After the first hour of operation, check that the synthetic castellated disc hub
nuts and spreading discs are firmly seated.
•
Regularly check the synthetic castellated disc hub nuts for defects (e.g. thread
damage, cracks).
•
Immediately replace suspect synthetic castellated disc hub nuts.
2. Turn the spreading disc by hand to make sure discs and vanes revolve freely without fouling the
metering output tract.
