Injury hazard from rotating pto shaft
Rotating pto shafts can lead to cutting, bruising and crushing injuries or death.
•
When the pto shaft is turning, the metering slides must
always
be activated
from the tractor seat.
Open the left-hand metering slide (from tractor seat) for the chosen length of
time. An output of Kg/min must be ascertained. It is preferable to allow a full 60
seconds, but as this may involve a greater capacity than the bucket will hold, a
time of 20 to 30 seconds can be used, but remember to multiply the results ac-
cordingly, to obtain a theoretical minute.
Weigh the amount collected, remembering to subtract the weight of the bucket.
If actual weight differs from the guideline figure given in the spreading chart, al-
ter the position of the metering slide stop and repeat the calibration check. E.g.
If 10% too little fertiliser is collected when the metering stop is at 150, as the
scale is proportionally laid out, select a new position of 150 + 10% = 165.
You may need to repeat the process several times before the correct applicati-
on rate is achieved. Remember, the actual weight measured must be half of
the application rate required, as only one half of the total width is used in the ca-
libration check. Once correct application rate is achieved, disengage pto drive,
switch off engine and remove the ignition key.
Refit the discs, making sure that right- and left-hand discs are correctly positio-
ned on their respective sides. Each disc is indicated with either L (for left-hand
side) or R (for right-hand side).
Refit the synthetic castellated disc hub nuts, making sure they are not cross-
threaded, and tighten by hand. Turn the spreading discs carefully by hand to
make sure they do not foul and, using the adjusting lever, securely but lightly
tighten, taking care not to overtighten.
Defective synthetic castellated disc hub nuts
Spreading discs are fast rotating parts and could flutter if the synthetic castella-
ted disc hub nuts are faulty or not securely fastened.
•
Regularly
check
castellated
nuts (threads and cracks etc.).
•
Replace defective castellated nuts immediately.
7.3 Purging unused fertiliser
To keep the spreader in good condition it is recommended that all unused ferti-
liser is removed immediately after field operations are completed. To purge the
hopper, follow instructions as per the calibration check in section 7.2. It is re-
commended that the metering slides are set to their max. opening position.
Injury hazard from rotating parts
Rotating hubs can lead to cutting, bruising and crushing injuries.
•
Do not stand in the vicinity of rotating hubs when removing unused fertiliser.
Any left-overs can be removed from inside the hopper with a bush and pan.
Make sure the pto drive is disengaged, tractor engine is switched off and the
ignition key is removed.
