Energy System | Battery Charging - Solar

Built-in solar system - on Canopy & Tailgate.

Karavans are fitted with a roof-mount solar system. Some Karavans are fitted

with a roof-mount and tailgate solar system. This has a permanent connection

and provides charge to the batteries anytime there is sufficient sunlight on the

panels.

170W Portable Solar Kit

Some models are supplied with a 170W portable solar kit.

For use, the panels are removed and placed on the ground using the in-built

stand. Connection is via an Anderson plug inlet on the lower edge of the front

storage box.

To charge:

1. Switch OFF all non-essential items that may draw power from the batteries

2. Place solar panels in desired position

3. Connect 12V power lead from panels to red Anderson plug solar inlet

4. Charging will happen automatically

Charging with your own Portable Solar Panels

If charging with your own Solar Panel kit we recommend you bypass “your” regulator and use the KK onboard

BC-DC regulator as this is programmed for optimal performance with KK batteries.

If you plug “your” panel kit into the trailer with your regulator then you may void your battery warranty. Where

possible we recommend you only use genuine KK products and accessories.

Optimum “sun hours”

Solar Panels need SUN LIGHT to produce power. Here is a table of the average “SUN HOURS” that apply in

regions around Australia with July and January months.

Note that Solar modules are usually rated in Watts BUT this is not at a 12V rating and so we have to re-rate

solar panels to a 12v nominal use capacity to calculate the size required.

IMPORTANT: These figures are for careful economic use. Where there is constant access to the fridge or

extended refrigeration loads, the power consumption will increase and the No of Days of sustainable power

will reduce. Allow a factor of 50% for heavy fridge activity.
