Laser Diode Testing
Model 2520 User’s Manual
Front panel test procedure
Step 1: Configure laser diode measurement function.
Configure the laser diode measurement function as follows:
1.
Press CONFIG then LASER V
L
.
2.
Choose POSITIVE or NEGATIVE polarity as desired, then press ENTER.
3.
Press LASER V
L
, then use the RANGE
▲
and
▼
keys to choose the measurement
range (5V or 10V) based on the expected voltage measurement. Use the lowest
range possible for best accuracy.
Step 2: Configure photodiode detector measurement functions.
Configure the photodiode detector measurement functions as follows:
1.
Press CONFIG then DETECTOR 1 I
PD
.
2.
Choose POSITIVE or NEGATIVE polarity as desired, then press ENTER.
3.
Press DETECTOR 1 I
PD
, then use the RANGE
▲
and
▼
keys to choose the mea-
surement range (10mA, 20mA, 50mA, or 100mA) based on the expected current
measurement. Use the lowest range possible for best accuracy.
4.
Repeat steps 1 through 3 for DETECTOR 2.
Step 3: Configure laser diode current source.
Set up the laser diode source as follows:
1.
Press CONFIG then LASER I
L
to access the source configuration menu.
2.
Choose POLARITY, then set the polarity to POSITIVE or NEGATIVE as desired.
3.
Choose SHAPE, then select the DC or PULSE mode as desired.
4.
If you chose PULSE, select LOW, then set the pulse low amplitude.
5.
Press EXIT to return to normal display.
6.
If you chose the PULSE mode in step 3, program the pulse delay and width using
the DELAY and PW keys.
7.
Press the COMPL key then program the voltage compliance (limit) as desired.
8.
Press LASER I
L
, then press the EDIT key to enter the edit mode.
9.
Use the RANGE
▲
and
▼
keys to select the source range (500mA or 5A) that will
best accommodate the value you want to set.
10.
Using either the EDIT or numeric entry keys, enter the desired current source
value.
Step 4: Configure photodiode detector voltage bias sources.
Set up the photodiode detector voltage bias sources as follows:
1.
Press DETECTOR 1 V
B
to edit the photodiode #1 source.
2.
Using either the EDIT or numeric entry keys, enter the desired source value (0 to
±20V).
