position and four of the Remote System channel icons have been placed in the
Dispatch
Resource Drop Zone
. (Reminder: to place resources into the Dispatch Resource Drop Zone, drag
and drop channel icons into it from either the Resources Area or from other interoperability nets.)
The Dispatcher interacts with channels in the Dispatch Resource Drop Zone, in either one-way
or two-way communication. When channels enter the Dispatch Resource Drop Zone, the default
communication is one-way, meaning the Dispatcher is monitoring communication from those
channels, but those channels do not receive audio from the dispatcher. To place a channel into
two-way mode, click the one-way arrow on the channel icon, or right click it and select the two-
way option.
To assure that system status can be understood at a glance, a yellow outline and single arrow
indicate channels in monitor only mode, and the red outline and two-way arrow indicate channels
that have been placed in full dispatch mode. Indicators are also present on these channels in the
other areas that they inhabit, such as the Resources Area and within an interoperability net. The
Dispatch Source is given a green outline.
Figure 6-7: Dispatching
System resources can be placed in the Dispatch Area whether they are already in an
interoperability net or are instead “waiting” in the Resources Area. For example, the UHF 451
channel is not currently in a net but is located in the Dispatch Area. That’s why it’s not grayed
out, it’s still available to be placed in a net. Any radio user on this channel may request an action
from the dispatcher by sending a transmission such as, “Please connect with the TAC net.” This
will be heard by the Dispatcher, who can place the system in the desired interoperability net, and
then transmit back confirmation that the request has been carried out.
