You can check out the host attachment from various host systems.
Checking channel attachment - System i (OS/400)
To verify that a 3592 tape drive is attached properly to an System i, complete the following steps.
1. Type
WRKCFGSTS *DEV *TAP ASTLVL(*BASIC)
at the prompt. The screen that shows all of the
attached tape device names, displays. In this example, TAP13

is the device name to use for VFYTAP.
