Attention:
v
To
ensure
proper
server
operation
when
you
install
an
additional
microprocessor,
use
microprocessors
that
have
the
same
cache
size
and
type,
and
the
same
clock
speed.
Microprocessor
internal
and
external
clock
frequencies
must
be
identical.
You
can
use
the
Configuration/Setup
Utility
program
in
your
server
to
determine
the
specific
type
of
microprocessor
on
your
system
board.
v
Some
models
of
the
xSeries
235
are
designed
for
400
MHz
microprocessors
while
others
are
designed
for
533
MHz
microprocessors.
An
attempt
to
plug
a
400
MHz
microprocessor
into
a
system
board
designed
for
a
533
MHz
processor
may
damage
the
components.
v
If
the
CR14
LED
on
the
system
board
is
illuminated
(see
“System-board
LED
locations”
on
page
53),
it
indicates
a
microprocessor
mismatch.
For
a
list
of
microprocessors
supported
by
your
server,
see
the
ServerProven
®
list
at
http://www.ibm.com/pc/us/compat/
on
the
World
Wide
Web.
Important:
A
boot
processor
must
always
be
installed
in
socket
U13
of
the
system
board.
Notes:
1.
To
order
additional
microprocessor
options,
contact
your
IBM
reseller
or
IBM
marketing
representative.
2.
When
you
install
a
microprocessor
in
socket
U9,
you
must
also
install
the
voltage
regulator
module
(VRM)
that
comes
with
the
microprocessor,
in
VRM
connector
J1.
3.
The
microprocessor
sockets
in
this
server
contain
built-in
termination
for
the
microprocessor
bus;
therefore,
terminator
cards
are
not
required
for
empty
microprocessor
sockets.
However,
for
airflow,
an
empty
microprocessor
socket
must
contain
a
microprocessor
baffle.
4.
The
microprocessor
speeds
are
automatically
set
for
this
server;
therefore,
you
do
not
need
to
set
any
microprocessor
frequency-selection
jumpers
or
switches.
5.
If
you
need
to
remove
a
microprocessor,
see
“Microprocessor
removal”
on
page
117.
The
following
illustration
is
a
simplified
layout
of
the
microprocessor
connector
locations
and
other
microprocessor-related
components
on
the
system
board.
Attention:
The
speed
of
the
microprocessor
must
match
the
speed
of
the
system
board.
The
533
MHz
system
board
is
identified
as
shown
in
the
following
illustration;
the
400
MHz
system
board
is
not
marked.
