3.1 Replacing Boards
This section describes the precaution and procedure for replacing the MPU/SRU, SFU, FPIC
of the LPU, and SPC of the SPU.
3.1.1 Replacing an MPU/SRU
This section describes the precaution and procedure for replacing an MPU/SRU.
Context
Before replacing a Main Processing Unit (MPU)/Switch and Route Processing Unit (SRU),
note the following:
l
When the system is running, you can replace only the standby MPU/SRU.
l
If you need to replace the active MPU/SRU, you must first perform an active/standby
switchover to enable the active MPU/SRU to be replaced to become the standby one.
l
During MPU replacement, you can use either CF card 1 of the to-be-replaced MPU or
that of the new MPU. Specific operations vary in these two scenarios.
l
The system software package and configuration file in the new MPU/SRU must be
consistent with those in the MPU/SRU to be replaced.
l
The USG9500 can use the MPU/SRU ESN and backplane ESN to apply for a license
file. If the license file is requested with the backplane ESN, services can operate
properly, without the reapplication of the license file. If the license file is requested with
the ESN of the MPU/SRU to be replaced, you need to reapply for the license file after
the MPU/SRU is replaced.
l
After creating an SSH user and RSA key pair, log in to the device through SSH. If the
MPU/SRU needs to be replaced, replace the MPU/SRU and then run the
rsa local-key-
pair create
command to create an RSA key pair that has the same name as that on the
previous MPU/SRU. Otherwise, you cannot log in to the device through SSH.
Tool
Before replacing an MPU/SRU, you need the following tools:
l
ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves
l
Phillips screwdriver
l
ESD bag
Procedure
Step 1
Check the software package version.
Run the
display_version
command to check the version of the running software package.
Step 2
Apply for a license file.
NOTE
You are advised to use the backplane ESN to apply for a license file. The
display esn all
command can be
used to query the backplane ESN.
