Wireless Interface Configuration
Adaptive Tx Power Control
Scope of Neighboring APs
ATPC may be applied broadly to all neighboring APs or more selectively to
specific APs by configuring either RF Group Name or Avoid Neighbor APs.
These parameters are mutually exclusive: Enabling one disables the other.
■
Adapting to APs by SSID Matching:
When a neighboring AP is detected
and neither one has an RF Group Name assigned, both APs compare their
lists of SSIDs:
•
If both APs have the same set of SSIDs, then they both adapt their
power to accommodate each other.
•
If one AP’s SSIDs are a subset of those on the other AP, the ‘subset’
AP adapts its power to the ‘superset’ AP, but the ‘superset’ AP does
not adapt its power to the ‘subset’ AP. The ‘superset’ AP must contain
all of the SSIDs in the ‘subset’ AP.
■
Adapting to APs by RF Group:
To apply ATPC to a group of specific
APs, assign the same RF Group Name to each of the APs in the group.
SSID configurations within the group are ignored, and all APs in the group
will mutually adapt their transmit power to adapt to their neighbors in the
group. APs outside the group are not accommodated. There is no limit to
the number of APs in an RF Group.
■
Adapting to All Neighboring APs:
To apply ATPC to all neighboring
APs regardless of RF Groups or SSID configurations, enable the Avoid
Neighbor APs setting.
Avoid Neighbor APs
adapts to any type of access point,
regardless of whether the other access point supports ATPC.
Adaptive Mode
AP mode:
In ‘AP’ mode, beacons and data transmissions are sent at the same
power level. The transmit power reduction limit is set to just reach the nearest
AP in order to minimize co-channel contention.
This mode is best for high density deployments where coverage is good and
contention reduction is critical. The reduction of beacon transmit power
encourages clients to associate to their closest APs.
AP + Clients mode:
In ‘AP + Clients’ mode, beacons are transmitted at full
power to maximize the radio’s coverage area while the power of data trans-
missions are reduced to minimize co-channel contention.
