Configuring the Radio
Web: Configuring Advanced Radio Settings
The Radio – Advanced Settings pop-up window, shown in Figure 6-3, enables
you to configure a number of advanced settings for the access point’s radio
operation:

Broadcast/Multicast Rate Limiting:
Enables the rate limiting on the
radio to transmit multicast and broadcast traffic. Using this parameter
enables the Rate Limit and Rate Limit Burst fields. (The default is
Disabled.)

Rate Limit:
The broadcast/multicast rate limit value in packets per
second. Valid values are any number greater than 0. (The default is
50
.)
•
Rate Limit Burst:
The broadcast/multicast rate burst value in
packets per second. This value specifies the length of time allowed
for a packet burst. Valid values are any number greater than 0. (The
default is
75
.)

Antenna Type:
The type of radio antenna utilized by this access point.
(The default is
Internal

Protected Mode:
Enables/disables the protection mode on the radio.

Enabled
.)

Antenna Mode:
The mode of radio antenna utilized by this access point.

Preamble
: Sets the length of the signal preamble used at the start of a
data transmission. Using a short preamble can increase data throughput
on the access point, but requires that all associated stations be able to
support a short preamble. (The default is
Long
.)

Long
: Ensures that the access point can support all 802.11b and 802.11g
stations.
•
Short
: Sets the preamble according to the capability of stations that
are currently associated. Uses a short preamble if all associated
stations can support it; otherwise a long preamble is used.

RTS Threshold:
Sets the packet size threshold at which a Request to Send
(RTS) signal must be sent to a receiving station before the sending station
starts communications. The access point sends RTS frames to a receiving
station to negotiate the sending of a data frame. After receiving an RTS
frame, the station sends a CTS (clear to send) frame to notify the sending
station that it can start sending data. (The default is

Slot Time
: Sets the basic unit of time the access point uses for calculating
waiting times before data is transmitted. (The default is
