HP 4142B DCS Settings
When the HP 4142B DCS is installed in to the HP 4062 at the factory , the HP 4142B is set as
sho wn in Figure 4-3 . Conrm these settings.

(1) CIR CUIT COMMON ( 5) { CHASSIS GR OUND ( ?) terminals:
F or oating measuremen ts, the HP 4142B is equipp ed with CIR CUIT COMMON ( 5)
{ CHASSIS GR OUND ( ?) terminals. When op erating the HP 4142B in an HP 4062
en vironmen t, ho w ev er, the HP 4142B can p erform grounded measuremen ts only . These
t w o terminals, therefore, m ust b e connected with the furnished shorting bar.
If used as a standalone instrumen t, the CIR CUIT COMMON ( 5) { CHASSIS GR OUND
( ?) terminals of the HP 4142B can b e disconnected to p erform oating measuremen
ts.
W arning
A potential shock hazard exists when CIRCUIT COMMON (5) is not connected
to CHASSIS GROUND (?) on the HP 4142B (shorting bar disconnected).
Regardless of the output v oltage, do not touch the COMMON terminal of the
SMU, GNDU, VS, or VM connectors during a floating measurement (shorting bar
disconnected).
(2) LINE ON/OFF switch:
The LINE ON/OFF switch lo cated at the low er-left side of the HP 4142B rear panel
m ust b e set to ON for the HP 4062 system. P o w er is supplied to the HP 4142B using the
PO WER ON/OFF switch, lo cated at the fron t panel of the HP 4142B.
(3) FIL TER switch:
The FIL TER switch on the rear panel of the HP 4142B sets the measuremen t in tegration
p erio d to a m ultiple of the line frequency p erio d to reduce the eects of line frequency
noise. Set this switch to the line frequency of the ac p o w er source.
