Creating a New User Account
When creating a new user accoun t on y our HP 4062UX/F system, y ou m ust esp ecially
consider the following. The System Administration Manager (SAM) helps y ou create a new
user accoun t. The follo wing briey explains ho w to create a new user accoun t.
1. Log in as a sup eruser b y en tering root after the Login: prompt as follo ws:
Login: root
After the Password: prompt app ears, en ter the ro ot passw ord of y our system. The
passw ord that y ou t yp e is not display ed on y our console.
2. T o start the SAM(1M) utilit y , en ter:
# sam

Mov e the eld p ointer to \Users and Groups", then select

Open softkey .

Mov e the eld p ointer to \Users", then select

Open softkey .

Select

Menubar on/off , then press 4 A 5 (Action) and 4 A 5 (Add . . . ) k eys.

Fill in the elds prop erly , then select

OK softkey .

When y ou are prompted to en ter the passw ord, press 4 Return 5 only . In this stage, the new
accoun t do es not need a passw ord. Later the user will set his passw ord. F or setting y our
passw ord, see A Be ginner's Guide to HP-UX .
8. Exit SAM(1M), then log o the HP-UX system.
9. Log in as the new accoun t. F or example, if the new accoun t name is \mike," en ter mike
4 Return 5 after the Login: prompt.
When y ou are prompted TERM = (hp) , en ter y our terminal t yp e. F or example, en ter:
TERM = (hp) 98550
10. Cop y the X11 en vironmen t le \ .Xdefaults " for HP BASIC/UX as follo ws:
$ cp /etc/newconfig/rmb/d.Xdefaults ./.Xdefaults
$ chmod u+rw .Xdefaults
11. If y ou use HP IMA/UX with the HP 4062UX/F system, p erform the follo wing steps:
a. Set the prop er fon ts for HP BASIC/UX. T o do so, edit the $HOME /.Xdefaults le
b y en tering:
$ vi .Xdefaults
and mo dify as in the following example:
Rmb*font: hp8.10x20
The fon t name dep ends on the resolution of y our graphics display .
b. If y our con troller is series 700 computer, mo dify $HOME /.Xdefaults le as follo ws to
set bac kground color for HP BASIC/UX.
rmb*BackGroundColor: rmb_black
12. Cop y a X11 startup le \ .x11start " for the HP 4062UX/F as follows:
