Setting the Private and Customer IP Addresses on the Support
Management Station
In a previous procedure, you set the IP address for LAN console access to the Support Management Station
(SMS). In this section you will set the IP address for the Private LAN connection to the GSP on the
Superdome, and the IP address for customer LAN access to the SMS.
When the SMS boots for the first time, it prompts you for network configuration information (using the
set_parms
script).
NOTE
The customer should supply the IP address for customer LAN access.
Running
set_parms
The script
set_parms
runs during the boot process. The first time
set_parms
runs in the stand-alone mode,
it prompts you to answer several questions.
You need the following information for this setup.
•
IP addresses
•
Host name
•
Global network mask
•
Complex Key to modify complex serial numbers
•
Gateway router IP address
To enter
set_parms
information:
Step 1. After you power on the SMS, the screen cycles through all of the choices that are available for the
type of monitor and keyboard that is connected. Select
type 3

Step 2. The script
set_parms
runs during the boot process and asks:
Are you are ready to link this system to a network?
Step 3. Enter
y
.
Step 4. Enter the complex name when
set_parms
prompts you for a system name.
CAUTION
Do not use the name “Private” for LAN 0 port during set_parms; it is reserved for
LAN port 1.
Step 5. Enter the appropriate time zone information, and all appropriate site specific networking
information when prompted.
