[Respiratory Mechanics]>>PV flex.
After implementing this string, the test win-
dow appears on the screen. Pressing the rotary knob starts the maneuver for the
measurement. As can be seen in Fig. 12-6, there is a maximum pressure parame-
ter and a maximum volume parameter. These two values are the maximum allowed
during the procedure, and are used as a criterion for completing the delivery of the
flow. Whichever value is reached first, it will signal the end of the test. The configu
-
ration of these values is performed using the
[Menu]
key.
By pressing this key once, the Pmax limit changes color, indicating that it can be
changed by turning the rotary knob. It is accepted by pressing the knob, or the va-
lue is resumed by pressing
[Esc].
Press the
[Menu]
key again to change the Vmax
limit. The change is performed the same way as that described for Pmax.
Once the result is displayed on screen, it is possible to perform the test again.
During the implementation of the test, it is possible to cancel the maneuver by
pressing
[Esc].

Picture of a PV flex test. The graph shown was
generated from a test mechanical lung with a compliance
change simulator. As a result, the changes in the curve can
be seen very clearly defined.
The Pimax is an index that evaluates the maximum contractile capacity of the ins-
piratory muscles, especially the diaphragm.
The Pimax is not only a reflection of the respiratory muscle function in isolation,
but it can also be affected by changes that occur anywhere in the genesis of mus-
cle contraction (central nervous system, conduction pathways, neuromuscular
junction, muscle mechanical situation, peripheral receptors, etc.).
This test is only enabled for the ADL and PED patient categories.
The Pimax can be performed with or without the cooperation of the patient. By
selecting
RESPIRATORY MECHANICS
in the test menu, the ventilator continues
in the selected mode and removes the PEEP.
The maneuver starts by analyzing the breathing cycle during two breaths, identi-
fying inspiration and expiration. During the last expiration, an inspiratory occlusion
