Preparing the collection system

Install a collection reservoir on the IV pole and clamp the reservoir
drain.

Open the Aspiration and Anticoagulation set using aseptic technique.

Pass the sterile inner wrapped line onto the sterile field and in the
sterile field, attach a plastic suction wand.

Connect the Aspiration and Anticoagulation set to the reservoir.
Attach wall suction to reservoir and
set suction at a minimal accept-
able level (recommended –80 to –150 mmHg)
. Close the roller
clamp on the anticoagulant line.

Warning: When using a vacuum source, the operator should be aware that
vacuum force greater than –200 mmHg may cause hemolysis.
