ASSEMBLY
MAINTENANCE BATTERY
IMPORTANT: Before attaching the cables to the battery, check the
date of the latter. The date indicates if it needs to be
charged.
1. Lift the seat support and secure in STAND-UP position with the seat
support bar.
2. Examine the upper part of the battery to locate where the battery
date (Figure 3) is shown.
3. If the battery has been put into service before date , the cables can
be attached without the need to charge the battery . See "Battery
Cables Attachment".
4. If the battery has been put into service after the date , it should be
charged. See "Charging the Maintenance Battery".
CHARGE THE MAINTENANCE BATTERY
CAUTION: When charging the battery, do not
smoke. Keep the battery away from sparks. Vapours
of sulfuric acid can cause an explosion.
1. To disconnect the battery clip from its tray , press the lower end of
the clip
2. Detach the battery from the right side of the unit.
3. Remove the protective caps from the battery terminals .
4. Use a 12-volt charger to charge the battery . Charge at a rate of 6
amps per hour. If you do not have a battery charger, have it charged by
an Authorized Service Centre.
5. Install the battery and secure it to its clip . Make sure that the
positive (+) terminals are on the right side.
INSTALLATION OF BATTERY CABLES
CAUTION: to avoid sparks, connect the red cable to the
positive (+) terminal before connecting the black cable.
Use the fasteners shown below to connect the battery cables .
Fasteners are shown in real size.
1. Remove the protective caps from the battery terminals.
2. Connect the red cable to the positive terminal using the clamp as
shown (Figure 3).
3. Connect the black cable to the negative terminal using the clamp
as shown.
