Connecting Cables
This section describes how to connect local and remote Aurorean systems. If
you are connecting a remote ANG only, skip to Connecting a Aurorean Network
Gateway on page 26.
NOTE
Although Aurorean servers are equipped with serial ports, these ports are
not normally used for configuration and control. To configure and
manage a ANG/APS system, install and use the RiverMaster
management application as described in the RiverMaster Administrator’s
Guide.
Ethernet Cables
The Ethernet ports on Aurorean servers support either 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps
transmission. Aurorean Policy Servers are equipped with two Ethernet ports
although only one port is needed for connection to a trusted network segment
(one protected by a firewall). Aurorean Network Gateways provide a similar
port as well as a second port for connection to an unprotected external
network segment (outside a firewall).
Connecting an Aurorean Policy Server
Aurorean Policy Servers are equipped with two 8-pin modular RJ-45 Ethernet
ports. Although either port can be used, connect the bottom port by
performing the following steps:

Plug the blue, straight-through Ethernet cable supplied with the
server into the bottom RJ-45 LAN port as shown in Figure 19.

Plug the opposite end of the cable into a wall jack, patch panel, or
hub.
Front panel LEDs connected to the Ethernet port show link activity
and indicate if the port is connected to an 100 Mbps network. For a
complete description of Ethernet LEDs, refer to Chapter 3.
