GHSH TASK 12-11-00-680-801-A
1. Fuel Tank - Draining
A. General
(1) This task gives the procedure to drain the fuel from the fuel tanks.
(2) Examine the fuel drained from each tank for water and other contami-
nants. You will usually see water as a layer below the fuel or as small bub-
bles in the fuel.
(3) Let the aircraft be stable for approximately 2h (hours) before you drain it.
B. Job Set-Up
(1) Do the procedure to make the aircraft safe for maintenance (GHSH TASK
20-00-00-910-801-A/200).
(2) Do the procedure to make the aircraft safe for maintenance of the fuel sys-
tem (GHSH TASK 28-00-00-910-801-A/200).
(3) Statically ground the aircraft (GHSH TASK 20-40-02-910-801-A/200).
NOTE
: Make all grounding connections between the fuel source, air-
craft, and fuel nozzle (refer to the requirements of the local
regulatory authorities).
WARNING: USE AN EXPLOSION-PROOF HEAT GUN IN AREAS
WHERE THERE IS RISK OF EXPLOSION. ADJUST THE
TEMPERATURE OF THE HEAT GUN TO A VALUE LESS
THAN THE FUEL SELF-IGNITION TEMPERATURE IN THE
AIRCRAFT FUEL TANK. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS
PRECAUTION, AN EXPLOSION CAN OCCUR AND
CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION
: THE HOT AIR TEMPERATURE FROM THE HEATING GUN
MUST NOT BE MORE THAN 50 °C. TEMPERATURES
ABOVE 50 °C CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT
SYSTEMS.
(4) For cold weather conditions, do a check of the fuel temperature as follows:
NOTE
: When the tank temperature is less than 0 °C (32 °F), you must
not directly operate the drain valve. At a temperature less than
0 °C (32 °F), water can freeze around the drain valve and make
the water flow impossible. If applicable, before you operate the
drain valve to drain the wing tank, use a heat gun to apply heat
to the drain valve area.
• Energize the aircraft with an external DC (Direct Current) power supply
(GHSH TASK 24-41-00-860-801-A/200).
• Do a check of the fuel temperature on the synoptic page.
