The sample pipettor picks up a tip from a sample tip consumable box located on the lower
workspace and ejects the tip to the tip waste reservoir. The tips are ejected using four eject
pegs spaced along the tip waste reservoir. When ejecting tips, the nearest post to where the
last tip dispense was performed is used.
3.4.2 Tip Detection
A tip presence detection system is used after the following functions:
Tip pickup
-
after tip is picked up and before going to safe height
During level detect
-
the spigot can go into a tube on the way down during level detect. If
the tip has fallen off on the way to the sample tube, the pipettor must prevent the spigot
from coming in contact with the fluid.
Before tip eject
-
to check the tip has not fallen off between aspirating the sample and after
dispense
After tip eject
-
to ensure the tip was ejected
Note: For every single shot transfer of sample fluid, a new tip is used.
3.4.3 Liquid Level Detection
The sample pipettor is capable of determining a liquid level. The tip submersion into the fluid
during level detect must not exceed 2.0 mm.
The pipetting system includes the ESP™ (Electronic Signature Pipetting) algorithm which
automatically detects gross pipetting inaccuracies caused by blockages, bubbles, clots, foam
or any pipetting anomaly that may be encountered at the fluid surface to ensure the fluid
height is detected at the correct place. In addition, ESP will ensure that the pipetted volume of
any fluid within its pipettable range is within ± 10% of the target volume.
