3.6 Sample Loading Module
The sample racks are designed to go through a sample rack loader which houses a laser
barcode reader and a laser with sensors for tube detection and tube size detection (see Figure
3-1). The rack loader is manually moved by the operator to a position for each rack slot for
loading racks. The loader may also be moved completely out of the way for user removal of
all racks instead of one rack at a time.
The system includes10 sample tube racks which each hold 20 sample tubes. Each rack is
capable of holding sample tubes with physical dimensions of.
External Diameter: 10-17 mm
Internal Diameter: 8-14 mm
Height: 40-100 mm
The system can detect the presence of a sample tube to determine if a tube has been loaded in
a sample rack tube position. It can determine the height of each loaded sample tube and detect
the diameter of each tube loaded to establish the size of sample tube used for each sample and
adjust height of initial level detection to speed up and accurately schedule sampling time. It
also adjusts pipette centering and tracking of fluid based on tube diameter.
