3.3 Transport Arm
The robotic transport arm (Figure 3-3) transports the various consumables around the
instrument locations at times required to perform the operations defined by the controlling
software and the worklist. The transport arm has gripper arms for positive locking and moving
the consumable holders around the system. In addition, the gripper arms are also used to
operate sliding doors and lock mechanisms within the system.

There is a camera associated with the transport arm which is used for reading two-
dimensional barcode labels.
