3.9 Microplate Reader
The Microplate Reader (Figure 3-8) is used to make Optical Density (OD) readings on wells
in a plate and includes six filters in the range between 405 and 690 nm.

The reader is capable of reading in Single / Dual and Multi-Wavelength Modes
a) Single Wavelength Mode
This mode reads the plate using a single test filter wavelength and the readings are
reported as the optical density (OD).
b) Dual Wavelength Mode
This mode reads the plate twice using two different specified filters (test & reference).
The values read using the specified reference filter are subtracted from the readings
obtained from reading with the test wavelength and the net value is reported as the optical
density.
c) Blank Mode
The reader can blank (subtract) a value from a specified blank well from all the other
wells on the test plate. Where multiple blank wells are specified the average of these blank
wells is subtracted from the other values on the plate.
