The operating temperature of each incubator is ambient (no more than + 4°C from the lab
ambient temperature) to 45°C. Each incubator chamber maintains its temperature to ± 0.5ºC.
All wells on a flat-bottomed microplate containing 200 µL of H
2
O are within ± 1ºC of a
temperature set point of 37ºC. The User can program the length of time for an incubation
operation.
The elevated temperature incubators are capable of shaking at three speeds: low / medium /
high shake frequencies. The incubators can shake for the duration of the incubation period or
a set initial period.
3.11 Front Doors
The two main front doors are locked electronically by the instrument when the instrument is
powered up and in use. In the event of a power failure the doors are also locked. The doors
can be opened using a manual key in the event of a power failure. On start up following a
power failure a user request will be required to determine if the user has opened the doors
manually. If the doors have not been opened then the instrument assumes the last known
status of the instrument. If the system finds a problem, the user is prompted to perform a
manual removal of all items and the system is shut down.
The doors are software controlled and each door can be opened individually through the
software user interface so that control is maintained. This is available when a worklist is not
currently running or in certain error states.
