Connecting the sample line
1
Connect the sample line to the Y-piece or HME filter, or hose
adapter with Luer Lock.
2
Connect the sample line to the water trap.
Establishing gas scavenging
1
Use the sample gas return kit to connect the exhaust port on
the gas analyzer with the sample gas return port on the anes-
thesia workstation.
2
If no sample gas recirculation is possible, connect the gas ana-
lyzer exhaust port to the anesthetic gas scavenging system
using the sample gas scavenging hose.
Getting started
Switching on the gas analyzer
1
Connect the mains plug if necessary and set the On/Off switch
on the rear of the device to "ON".
2
Check the mains power indicator on the front of the gas ana-
lyzer.
When starting, the gas analyzer passes through an initialization
and warm-up period. During this time, concentrations for certain
gases may not be available and the anesthetic agent may not be
identified.
Operation
WARNING
Risk due to leakage from improperly connected or dam-
aged sample line
Check the sample line for damage and connect it properly,
otherwise faulty gas measurements may result.
WARNING
Risk of infection
Used sample lines may be infectious due to the breathing
gases that passed through them. Sampling lines are not
reusable and must be replaced after each patient unless a
bacterial filter is in place between sample line and patient.
Observe the replacement intervals of the water trap.
WARNING
Risk of patient cross infection
To avoid patient cross infection, if the sampled gas is
returned to the breathing system, use the sample gas return
kit including its bacterial filter. Replace the bacterial filter
according to the schedule in the chapter "Preventive main-
tenance".
WARNING
Risk of medical device failure and of patient injury
Do not connect the sample line to the patient, infusion
equipment (e.g., infusion pumps etc.) or any other equip-
ment near the patient.
NOTE
As a result of automated zeroing room air is added to the breath-
ing system when using the sample gas return kit.
WARNING
Risk of inaccurate gas measurement values and adverse
effects on bystanders due to contamination of the ambient
air
Always connect the gas exhaust of the medical device and
anesthesia machine to the scavenging system or return the
medical device's sample gas to the breathing system of the
anesthesia machine.
Ensure proper ventilation of the place where the medical
device is located.
WARNING
Risk of explosion and fire
Do not place the medical device into operation if oxygen
leakage is suspected in the medical device or its vicinity.
Stop all oxygen supplies and contact service personnel.
CAUTION
Risk of gas measurement failure
To prevent condensation and resulting failure of electrical com-
ponents, do not switch on the medical device after significant
temperature changes for 1 to 2 hours (e.g., after storage in
unheated rooms).
NOTE
In case of a power supply failure, the gas analyzer shuts down
and when power is restored, the gas analyzer powers back up.
WARNING
Risk of strangulation
Negligent placement of sample line, cables, and similar
device components can endanger the patient.
Use particular diligence when establishing connections to
the patient.
WARNING
Risk of airway pressure drop
The medical device will continue to draw air from the
patient’s ventilation system when the mechanical ventila-
tion is stopped during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery.
Disconnect the sample line during cardiopulmonary
bypass surgery. In case ventilation is to be ceased, switch
the medical device to standby mode or disconnect the sam-
ple line and seal the sampling site to avoid leakage.
WARNING
Risk of inaccurate gas measurement values and gas mea-
surement failure
To avoid temporary influence on the gas measurement and
prevent damage to the water trap and measuring system do
not use nebulizers/aerosols in the breathing system, when
the medical device is connected.
Disconnect the sample line temporarily when using nebu-
lizers in the breathing system.
