Installing a Virtual Chassis Module in a J-EX4500 Switch
The Virtual Chassis module is installed horizontally on the rear panel of the switch. See
“Rear Panel of a J-EX4500 Switch” on page 9. Use the procedure described in this topic
to install the Virtual Chassis module.
CAUTION: Operating a J-EX4500 switch without the Virtual Chassis module
installed is not supported. You cannot start the switch unless the Virtual
Chassis module is installed in the chassis.
Before you begin installing the Virtual Chassis module in the switch:
•
Ensure that you have taken the necessary precautions to prevent electrostatic discharge
(ESD) damage (see “Prevention of Electrostatic Discharge Damage” on page 186).
•
Have instructions and tools available for removing and installing the fan tray. If the fan
tray is installed, you must remove it as part of the procedure for installing the Virtual
Chassis module. After you install the module, you must install the fan tray. See
“Removing a Fan Tray from a J-EX4500 Switch” on page 130 and “Installing a Fan Tray
in a J-EX4500 Switch” on page 89.
Ensure that you have the following parts and tools available:
