Clock operation for the Model 54591 and 54593 cards is identical to that for the Model
54522 and 54523 cards. Refer to subsection 5.6, substituting 54591 for 54522 in the
text and 54593 for 54523.
5.10 Model 54541/54542 Synchronization Monitor Card
5.1010 The 54541 card is a DS1 performance measurement device. The 54542 card
measures E1 or 2.048 MHz square wave performance.
5.101 Functions
5.1011 The Model 54541/54542 Synchronization Monitor Card (SMC) performs the
following functions:
a. Measures the performance of two of five input signals simultaneously. The
five signals are the two reference DS1/E1 inputs and any of three external
DS1/E1 signals using the currently selected 54522, 54523, 54591, or
54593 track and hold clock card output as a standard. Note that five
additional external signals are available if a second SMC is installed.
b. Measures time interval error (TIE), maximum time interval error (MTIE), bit
and frame slips, peak to peak wideband jitter (above 10 Hz), and peak to
peak wander over the selected observation interval. TIE, MTIE, and
wander are calculated from phase data processed through a 10 Hz
low-pass filter.
c. Determines DS1/E1 performance parameters of any two of the five signals
above.
d. Selects observation intervals of 1, 10, 100, 1000, 10,000, and 100,000
seconds for any of the five inputs. In an alternative mode, the SMC
acquires 32 samples of unfiltered phase data over the selected
observation interval for any of the five inputs. Any single input can be
monitored indefinitely.
e. Selects scan mode which will accumulate data from all five of the inputs
sequentially. The default scan mode is for 100 seconds on each input in
turn. The SMC is directed by the 54550 Information Management Card to
measure one or more of the inputs in one of its modes. Refer to the Larus
TL1/ITL1 User Manual 80-800-280 for information on all of the modes.
f. Independently compares the two track and hold card outputs for bit slip.
g. Uses a serial data link to report performance, control, personality, sync
messaging, and alarms through the 54550 Information Management Card
to remote or local terminals. Alarm states are shown on front panel LED
indicators.
