To set the global maximum packet size or MTU size for switched packets on Gigabit Ethernet and 10-Gigabit
Ethernet ports, use the
system mtu
command in global configuration mode. To restore the global MTU value
to its default value use the
no
form of this command.
system mtu bytes
no system mtu
Syntax Description
The global MTU size in bytes. The range is 1500 to 9198 bytes; the default is 1500
bytes.

Usage Guidelines
You can verify your setting by entering the
show system mtu
privileged EXEC command.
The switch does not support the MTU on a per-interface basis.
If you enter a value that is outside the allowed range for the specific type of interface, the value is not accepted.
Examples
This example shows how to set the global system MTU size to 6000 bytes:
Device(config)#
system mtu 6000
Global Ethernet MTU is set to 6000 bytes.
Note: this is the Ethernet payload size, not the total
Ethernet frame size, which includes the Ethernet
header/trailer and possibly other tags, such as ISL or
802.1q tags.
