Seats and Restraints

Once you have installed a child

restraint, push and pull the

restraint in different directions to

make sure it is secure.
Children who have outgrown their

child restraint system should sit in

the rear seat, restrained by a prop-

erly fastened safety belt.
Make sure the safety belt restrains

the child properly. The shoulder

portion of the belt should be as far

away from the neck as possible

and the lap portion should be low

across the hips. Check the belt

position occasionally to verify that

it is safely positioned.

Top Strap (If equipped)

A child restraint may have a top

strap.
Some top strap-equipped child

restraints are designed for use with

or without the top strap being

anchored. Others require that the

top strap be anchored.

Read and follow all instructions

that come with the restraint.
If your child restraint requires that

the top strap be anchored, do not

use the restraint unless it is

anchored properly.
Child restraints with top straps can

only be used in rear seating posi-

tions. There are no anchor brack-

ets available for front seating

positions.

There are three top strap anchor

locations along the back wall of

the rear area.
An anchor assembly has already

been installed in the center anchor

location.
Anchor assemblies for the

outboard anchor locations are in a

package in the glove box.
For proper installation, follow the

diagram above.

When installing an anchor assem-

bly, make sure to use the correct

anchor bolt (5/16" bolt).

CAUTION

The anchor bolt must be

engaged at least 5 full threads

into the anchorage.
Tighten the anchor bolt firmly.

CAUTION

Be sure to seal any unused top

strap anchor location with the

supplied plug or with a suitable

bolt.
Otherwise, deadly exhaust gas

could get into your vehicle.

When installing a child restraint

with a top strap, attach the top

strap to the top strap anchor.
Follow the diagram above.
