If the system determines that an
invalid key is being used in the
ignition, the Security System Light
will turn on.
• If the invalid key does not have
a transponder in it, the security
light will shine steadily.
• If the invalid key does have a
transponder in it, but the
decoder does not detect the
correct code, the security light
will flash.
In either situation, the system will
not allow the vehicle to start.

System" for more information.
Content Theft Deterrent
System (If equipped)
You must use the remote keyless
entry transmitter to activate the
anti-theft mode.
See "Remote Keyless Entry" later in
this section for more information.
Note:
The system can be activated even
if windows or doors are open.
Close all windows and doors
before leaving the vehicle.
Arming the System
To arm the system:
1. Close the windows.
2. Turn the ignition to
LOCK .
If the ignition is in ACC (acces-
sory), the anti-theft system will
not arm.
3. Remove the key from the igni-
tion.
4. Have all passengers get out of
the vehicle.

CAUTION
Leaving children, helpless
adults, or pets in a vehicle with
the windows closed is danger-
ous. They could be overcome
by extreme heat and could
suffer permanent injuries or
even death from heat stroke.
Never leave a child, a helpless
adult, or a pet alone in a vehi-
cle, especially with the windows
closed in warm or hot weather.
5. Close all doors (including the
rear hatch and the hood).
Note:
- The system can be activated
even if the windows are
open. Close all the windows
and doors before leaving the
vehicle.
CAUTION
Do not lock the vehicle using
the remote keyless entry trans-
mitter if anyone is to be left
inside the vehicle.
6. Lock the vehicle with the
remote keyless entry system.
All doors will lock, the hazard
lights will flash once, you will
hear a chirp, and the anti-theft
system will be armed.
The Security System Light should
flash to indicate the theft deterrent
system is armed.
