N o r m a l use o f a truck causes metal-to-metal

For exposed surfaces, such as door checks, door lock
bolts, lock striker plates, dovetail b u m p e r wedges, etc.
apply a thin film o f light engine oil.
W h e re oil holes are provided in body parts a
dripless oil can be safely used, but any lubricant should
be used sparingly, and a fte r application all excess should
be carefully wiped off.

track, ordinarily
overlooked, should be lubricated with w ater resistant EP
chassis lubricant which meets G e n e ra l Motors Specifica

T h e re are other points on bodies which m ay
occasionally require lubrication and which are difficult to
service, window regulators and controls are confined in
the space between the upholstery and the outside door
panel. Easy access to the w orking parts m a y be m ade by

Corrosive materials used for ice and snow removal
an d dust control accumulate on the underbody. If
allowed
to rem ain, these materials can result in
accelerated rusting and deterioration o f underbody
com ponents such as fuel lines, fram e and floor pan,
exhaust system, etc. At least once each year, preferably
after a w in te r’s exposure these corrosive materials should
be removed by flushing the underb o d y with plain water.
Particular attention should be given to cleaning out those
areas where m ud and other foreign materials collect.
SPEED O M ETER ADA PTER
On vehicles so equipped, lubricate a d a p te r at fitting
w ith water resistant E P chassis grease which meets
G e n e ra l M otors Specification G M 6 0 3 1-M every 7,500
miles or 12 m onths (6,000 miles or 4 m onths Heavy Duty
Emission Vehicles).

SCHEDULE
Three separate M aintenance Schedules are used for
the 1977 truck models. Two schedules (L-6 Schedule and
V-8 Schedule) are used on the Light D uty Emission
Vehicles while a th ird schedule applies only to Heavy
D uty Emission Vehicles.
Presented on the following pages are the M ainte
nance Schedules, followed im m ediately by the schedule
explanation. Section " A " (Lubrication and General
M aintenance) and Section " B " (Safety M aintenance) are
the same for both L-6 and V-8 Schedules; however,
Section " C " (Emission Control M aintenance) differs.
