Controlling Cakewalk with U-8
After U-8 and Cakewalk connect, the U-8 buttons for playback,
recording, stopping, rewinding, and many other functions control
Cakewalk.
Besides these common tasks, two of the most basic functions youÕll do
from U-8 are:
¥
Selecting a track groupÑYou can use U-8Õs Track Volume faders to
control the volume of any of four groups of tracks in Cakewalk.
¥
Choosing and executing menu commandsÑYou can choose and
execute most of CakewalkÕs menu commands from U-8.
Now U-8’s buttons and knobs control Cakewalk. Tracks 1-8 are always
audio tracks in this version of Cakewalk. If you open a new, empty
project, only audio track 1’s fader will respond at startup. As soon as
you activate a track by naming it or adding properties to it, its fader
will respond. See “To Select a Track Group…” on page 3 for more
information.
Note: You must open the U-8 StudioWare panel representing U-8’s
controls after you open Cakewalk. To open the U-8 StudioWare panel,
select File-Open and choose Roland U-8 Cakewalk StudioWare.
Note: The StudioWare panel does not control Cakewalk or the U-8
module—it only displays changes you make to the U-8 Track Status
panel and Track Group Indicators from U-8 itself. Also, when you first
open a project, the StudioWare panel does not display the actual
condition of U-8's Track Status buttons until you press the Track
Group Select button for the first time.
To toggle between Cakewalk’s Track view and its U-8 StudioWare
panel, press U-8’s Window button.
To Select a Track Group…
1.
Press U-8’s Track Group Select button. It’s located in U-8’s upper
left corner below the Input Sens A button.
Each time you press the Track Group Select button, a different
Track Group Indicator lights up to indicate which track group you
have selected. The Track Group Indicators are just below the
Track Group Select button.
