4.1 Installation
4.1.1 Safety Instructions
Whenever you are working with UV transilluminators you have to wear safety equipment (safety
glass, face protecting mask) to rule out any hazards due to ultraviolet rays. The transilluminator
is designed for operation in the NightOWL and should not be operated outside the device.
4.1.2 Requirements
Please observe the following requirements when working with the NightOWL II:
3-5 mains outlets 230V or 115V (depending on accessories). The power consumption of the
NightOWL II without PC and external devices is max. 200 W.
The
power
consumption
of
the
anesthesia
unit
with
compressor
is
340
W.
We recommend connecting the devices to a common outlet strip with switch. This allows you to
power on/off the system with one switch.
At least 160 cm width of workplace (the load-carrying capacity of the table or the desktop should
be approx 100 kg). The table or desktop should stand firmly and not wobble.
Network connection for use of network resources (network printer, file server, etc.). Connection to
the Internet is recommended, but it is not essential for operation of the NightOWL.
If you are working with the anesthesia unit, you need in addition an oxygen low-pressure connec-
tion (medical oxygen). The connection should be designed such that a hose with 6x3 mm (inter-
nal diameter 6 mm, external diameter 12 mm) can be connected. The discharge pressure should
be approx. 1 bar. The maximum flow rate is about 2 l/min.
The anesthesia unit includes a double filter system to prevent the escape of the anesthetic. For
this reason, the system has to be operated under a fume hood. For safety reasons, we recom-
mend to provide for adequate ventilation of the premises.
To allow ergonomic working, the NightOWL II should always be set up to the left of the PC, as the
door hinges are on the left.
